What does the Bible say about tithing?
In Malachi 3:10, God says, “Bring all the tithes into the storehouse so there will be enough food in my Temple…I will open the windows of heaven for you. I will pour out a blessing so great you won’t have enough room to take it in! Try it! Put me to the test!” This is the only time in the whole Bible where God tells us to test him! It’s almost like God is saying, “I dare you, try to out-give me!”
What is a “tithe”?
The word “tithe” literally mans a tenth (10%). So a tithe is when you give your first 10% of your income back to God. An “offering” is anything you give beyond 10%.
So why do we tithe?
Giving back to God financially teaches us to put God first in our lives (Matthew 6:33). Giving reminds us that God is the source of every good thing (James 1:17) and invites God to place his blessings in our lives.
Who manages the CHC funds?
Cedar Hills Church is mission driven: for every person in our community to experience full life in Jesus Christ. In order to realize our mission, we rely on your financial tithes and offerings. The CHC trustees have the responsibility to oversee our financial activities.
Working alongside the staff, the church has a history of managing finances extremely well. Every year, spending is on budget. Every year, our financial giving meets or exceeds our projections. This track record is, in part, due to two things – the faithfulness of God’s provision through His people and the rigorous planning process we employ. We research best practices in church finances in order to better understand our giving and expense allocation.
In the event that your tithes and offerings exceed our expectations, three uses of proceeds are considered: increase investment in ministries, increase charitable giving and/or debt reduction.
We are blessed to be stewards of your tithes and offerings. Most important, we are humbled by the responsibility to carry out God’s work here in North Idaho. Only through the grace and wisdom of the Holy Spirit will we fulfill our mission.
